Find Norton Correctional Facility Releases

To find someone released from Norton Correctional Facility, use Kansas state corrections records rather than the county jail roster. A person may move to another prison, leave under parole or postrelease supervision, transfer to another authority, or reach sentence discharge. Each event has a different record meaning. KASPER supplies the main Norton Correctional Facility release trail through movements, custody or supervision status, and an anticipated date. KDOC records supply added proof when the public entry cannot show the exact event.

Norton Correctional Facility Releases

Norton Correctional Facility is a Kansas state prison operated by the Kansas Department of Corrections. A movement out of NCF may lead to another KDOC institution, an approved community location under parole or postrelease supervision, another sovereign’s detainer, or maximum-sentence discharge. Movement to another prison is a transfer. Leaving prison under supervision is not the end of the sentence.

KASPER, the Kansas Adult Supervised Population Electronic Repository, is the correct public search. The Norton County Sheriff’s current-inmate page has no role in confirming an NCF movement. It covers the sheriff-run Norton County Jail, which is a different institution and custody system.

KDOC event Meaning Confirmation
Facility movement Transfer within KDOC KASPER movement and new housing
Parole or postrelease Community release under supervision Status, movement, and parole office
Detainer transfer Another authority assumes custody KDOC record and receiving agency
Discharge KDOC sentence relationship ends Discharge entry or certificate

Confirm NCF Release in KASPER

KDOC says KASPER covers people sentenced to the Secretary of Corrections since 1980 who are incarcerated, under post-incarceration supervision, or discharged. It is updated each working day. A recent event may therefore take time to post.

  1. Open the official KASPER disclaimer and accept the live terms.
  2. Search by KDOC registration number when known, or use the most exact name data available.
  3. Match the registration number, identity, conviction county, case, and physical details.
  4. Read housing, movements, custody or supervision level, and parole-office location together.
  5. After an anticipated date, look for an actual movement or request KDOC release evidence.

The future field is officially called “Anticipated release date.” Good time, program credits, discipline, court changes, and sentence recalculation may change it. A date is planning data, not proof that a gate event occurred.

Release boundary: A parole-office assignment confirms community supervision, not maximum-sentence discharge.

NCF Records and Contact

Official KDOC material lists P.O. Box 546, Norton, KS 67654-0546; 785-877-3389; fax 785-877-6604; and NCF.2@doc.ks.gov. Verify visitor and contact details through the live NCF facility page because audit reports are dated operational snapshots.

Ask KDOC for the precise existing record needed: movement history, custody or supervision status, sentence computation, or discharge certificate. KDOC lists 785-296-3317 for sentence-computation questions and kdoc_pub@ks.gov for public-data accuracy concerns. The facility line should not be treated as a promise that staff can disclose a person-specific release plan.

For a factual error, provide the KDOC number and documentary support and ask for correction or annotation. Correction does not mean automatic deletion. KDOC says discharged records generally remain unless an overturned conviction, expungement, or executive clemency supplies a basis for removal.

KASPER NCF Record Fields

KASPER documents identity and physical descriptors, a correctional photograph, convictions with county and case, anticipated release date, housing and movements, parole-office location, custody or supervision level, and disciplinary findings. These fields must be read as a timeline rather than isolated labels.

The KDOC locating explanation describes scope, updates, and date changes.

The capture supports the distinction between an anticipated date and completed release. Preserve the access date because status can change after the screen is viewed.

A KASPER photograph is a state-corrections image. It is not necessarily the booking photograph from an earlier Norton County Jail episode. K.S.A. 45-221(a)(29) provides the open-record framework for specified correctional fields, but exemptions and requester limits must be read with the statute as a whole.

Norton Prison Release History

KDOC’s 2019 PREA audit traces the Norton site to a tuberculosis sanatorium built in 1914. The property later served as Norton State Hospital and Valley Hope. Kansas converted it to a minimum-custody prison in 1987, then added medium custody in 1997. The audit described a design capacity of 975 at that time. That figure is historical audit context, not a current population or capacity claim.

This history explains why the prison has a state record trail. It is not an extension of the sheriff’s courthouse roster. The 2019 audit is the source for the institutional history. KDOC’s current facility page should control present contact and operating details.

The administratively related East Unit is in Stockton, Rooks County. When a movement record names that unit, the physical location should not be described as Norton County merely because it shares NCF administration.

NCF Release Versus Transfer

A person can leave NCF without entering the community. The next movement may be another KDOC prison or another authority acting on a detainer. A detainer is a request or hold telling the current custodian that another agency may take custody. Confirm the receiving agency instead of reading an empty facility field as freedom from custody.

Parole and postrelease supervision are also distinct. Parole is conditional community release used in eligible cases, often involving older indeterminate sentences. Postrelease supervision follows many determinate sentences. Both mean prison custody ended while legal supervision continued. A discharge record or maximum-sentence discharge certificate answers whether the KDOC sentence relationship ended.

Anticipated date
A forecast that may change before release.
Movement
A recorded change of facility or custody setting.
Discharge
Completion of the KDOC sentence and supervision relationship.
Detainer
A hold or request from another authority.

The Release Date Lookup explains Kansas credit rules. Avoid generic “85 percent” claims because Kansas good-time caps and sentence frameworks vary by offense and date.

NCF Community Release Evidence

After a projected date passes, open the individual KASPER record again. Match the KDOC number, quote the exact status, and inspect movements. A listed parole office indicates supervision. If the issue is full discharge, request the certificate or equivalent KDOC record rather than relying on the date alone.

The Kansas Prisoner Review Board hearing schedule is not a release list. Appearance on an eligible-person list means a case is in process, not that release was granted. Board outcomes may include parole, continue for more information, or pass for a set period. Later KASPER movement is the better confirmation of what actually occurred.

K.S.A. 75-5211 addresses limited clothing, money, and transportation for qualifying initial KDOC releases under defined conditions. Those provisions do not prove what one person received. Release to a detainer can also affect eligibility. KDOC’s reentry page is the official service-navigation source.

Norton Facilities Share No Roster

Norton’s courthouse houses the sheriff jail, District Court, and Court Services, but NCF is a separate KDOC institution. The shared county name creates a serious search trap. County court records may describe the conviction and commitment, while KASPER shows state custody. The sheriff roster cannot confirm a prison release.

For a jail-to-prison transfer, connect the sources by case number and identifiers. First obtain the sheriff movement. Then confirm KDOC acceptance and housing in KASPER. For release from NCF, remain with KDOC movements and supervision records. The Norton County released inmate search supplies the broader cross-agency path.

Note: County of conviction, prison location, parole office, and intended residence can all be different places.

When KASPER cannot answer the exact question, request the underlying KDOC record. State whether it proves a movement, community supervision, or discharge. Those conclusions are not interchangeable.

NCF Discharge Record Retention

KDOC’s public locating information says discharged records remain available and describes removal after an overturned conviction, expungement, or executive clemency. The state retention schedule also treats parts of KASPER as permanent. A complete inmate file is retained for three years after sentence expiration, followed by longer retention of selected material, including the photograph, parole documents, and discharge certificate.

This durable trail makes a past KDOC case different from a county web roster. A person can remain searchable after discharge. Continued visibility does not mean current prison custody, while removal from a facility field does not prove discharge. Read the custody or supervision label, movements, and sentence record together.

Accuracy questions should identify the KDOC number, disputed field, access date, and documentary support. KDOC lists kdoc_pub@ks.gov for public-data concerns. Ask for correction or annotation of a factual error. Do not describe that request as guaranteed deletion, and do not treat an unresolved concern as permission to substitute a different status.

NCF Release Plan Boundaries

The Prisoner Review Board reviews a release plan in applicable cases, but a hearing calendar is not a completed-release record. For guideline crimes after July 1, 1993, the Board cannot simply advance or delay the determinate prison-release date. For older or otherwise eligible cases, parole timing depends on the controlling sentence and statutory exceptions.

When a record names a parole office, confirm the supervising office through KDOC contacts. County of conviction is not necessarily the person’s release destination. The office, approved residence, prison location, and Norton County can all be different places, so each location should be described only for the role the record assigns it.
